What is Solage solution used for?

Solage solution is used to treat solar lentigines also known as brown "age" or "liver" spots. Solage should only be used under medical supervision together with a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program. Solage does not permanently cure solar lentigines.

Who should not use Solage?

Solage solution may cause harm to a fetus. Solage solution should not be used in women who are pregnant. Women who are able to have children should use effective birth control measure when being treated with Solage solution.

Solage solution should not be used on children.

If you are sunburned, do not use Solage solution until you have fully recovered.

Do not use Solage solution if you have a skin condition called eczema or other inflamed or irritated chronic skin conditions.

Do not use Solage solution if you are naturally sensitive to sunlight or taking other drugs that increase your sensitivity to sunlight.

General Precautions with Solage solution:

Stop using Solage solution and contact your doctor if sensitivity or increased irritation occurs, or the age spots become darker with treatment.

Solage solution should be used with caution if you are also using:

  • other topical products with a strong skin-drying effect,
  • products with high concentrations of alcohol, such as astringents
  • spices, or lime
  • medicated soaps or shampoos
  • permanent wave solutions
  • electrolysis
  • hair removal products or waxes
  • other preparations or processes that might dry or irritate the skin

If you are using any of these types of products, tell your doctor.

What should I tell my doctor or health care provider?

There is very limited information on the safety of Solage solution in people with moderately to darkly pigmented skin. If you, or a family member, have a history of vitiligo (a skin condition consisting of white patches on various parts of the body), tell your doctor.

Tell your doctor if you are using any facial or skin creams.

Because certain other medications can interact with Solage solution, review all medications that you are taking with your health care provider, including those that you take without a prescription.

What are some possible side effects of Solage?

(This is NOT a complete list of side effects reported with Solage. Your health care provider can discuss with you a more complete list of side effects.)

On areas of the skin where it is applied, Solage solution may cause:

  • Redness
  • Stinging
  • Burning
  • Irritation
  • Peeling
  • Itching

For more detailed information about Solage, ask your health care provider.
